Fire Chief - Job Announcement

Williamson County Emergency Services District #3/ Hutto Fire Rescue is seeking a Fire Chief to oversee the operations and administration of the fire department. Williamson County ESD #3 is a combination fire department governed by Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. The Fire Chief reports to five District Commissioners which are appointed by the Williamson County Commissioners Court.

Williamson County ESD #3's service area consists of approximately 65 square miles of eastern Williamson County with the City of Hutto located wholly inside the ESD. Hutto is a rapidly growing city of approximately 18,000 residents. The service area is bordered on the west by the City of Round Rock, the east by the City of Taylor, the south by the Travis County line and the north by the rural areas known as Weir and Jonah and the City of Georgetown.

Two major highways run through the district, State Highway 79 runs east and west and the recently opened toll road State Highway 130 runs north and south.

The District answered 1,065 calls for service in 2007 and has continued to experience a steady increase in calls as the area has continued to develop and grow.

The District employs a wide range of employees in several employment classifications. Currently the Fire Chief is a part-time position that is being transferred to a full-time position. The current Fire Chief does not wish to transfer into the full-time Chief position. In addition to the Fire Chief the District employs three full-time firefighters, thirty part-time firefighters, one full-time administrator and one part-time fire inspector. Hutto Community Volunteer Fire Department is the volunteer organization that originated in the area to provide fire protection. Out of the HCVFD the ESD was formed to provide a means of revenue to fund the fire/rescue operations to the community. Since the formation of the ESD in 1999 a continuous evolution has occurred that transformed the operations of the fire department from an all volunteer service run by the HCVFD to the combination fire department that exists today. The HCVFD still exists as a separate non-profit entity that supports the operations of the ESD. The Asst. Chief of the Volunteers reports directly to the Fire Chief of the ESD.

Williamson County ESD #3 maintains a fleet of six vehicles for response and support of the District's operations. The fleet consists of two class A engines, one light rescue truck, two brush trucks and one support vehicle.

Williamson County ESD #3 is accepting applications with resumes until 5 P.M (CST) on November 20, 2008. Contact MaryAnn Buchanan using this form, or by emailing mailto:mabuchanan@huttofirerescue.org, or calling (512) 759-2616 to request an application.
